Educational Facilities and Resources
Educational Facilities and Resources
Children have access to a wide range of high-quality learning resources at King Edward VI Preparatory School. From sewing machines to 3D printers, there are endless opportunities to enhance their learning and inspire curiosity.
Classrooms
We have a dedicated Cookery Room, Performing Arts Studio, Art Room, Science Laboratory, and Languages Classroom. Lower and Upper Prep each have their own well-stocked fiction and reference libraries, along with an IT suite, while Pre-Prep enjoys its own dedicated library space.
Following the success of our impressive Pre-Prep building, our equally inspiring Lower Prep building provides a bright, spacious, and dynamic learning environment. Designed with flexibility and creativity in mind, each classroom opens directly onto a covered outdoor area, enabling pupils to learn and explore in all weathers. The building’s natural materials and harmonious colour palette complement our woodland surroundings beautifully, creating a calm and purposeful atmosphere.
The Sports Hall includes a full-sized pitch, large viewing gallery, and changing rooms. Built to a high specification, it is used extensively for sport, drama, assemblies, and community events.
iPads and VR Headsets
Across the School, we have banks of iPads used to support pupils’ learning. Children use them across a range of subjects, including Science, Maths, and English, with access to carefully selected educational apps to aid development. Interactive whiteboards, virtual reality headsets, and green screens further enhance learning experiences and bring lessons vividly to life.
The Great Outdoors
Adjacent to the Lower Prep building is Highwood Heights, our adventure playground featuring log towers, climbing nets, and even two relaxing hammocks — a much-loved space for play, exploration, and discovery. This area is enjoyed predominantly by Lower and Upper Prep children.
For Pre-Prep children, our new Playscape area—complete with a mud kitchen, sandpits, and a willow tunnel—encourages creativity, imagination, and adventure. This wonderful space sits beside the pony field, which our Reception children love to visit daily, learning about animal care and deepening their understanding of the natural world.
Highwood House stands in 22 acres of grounds, including playing fields, a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, an all-weather riding arena, and stables. The outdoor environment is an exceptional educational resource, offering supervised access to the School’s Forest School sites, beehives, raised beds for growing vegetables, and a conservation area. This includes two ponds with dipping platforms and timber walkways over marshy ground, giving children the opportunity to study the natural environment first-hand.
The extensive grounds and excellent facilities across KES Prep provide countless opportunities for children to learn creatively, embark upon adventures, and explore both indoors and outdoors. We want our children to fully embrace the outstanding educational facilities and resources available to them and to take pride in learning within such a rich and inspiring environment.
At King Edward VI Preparatory School, we are immensely proud of what we offer our pupils — a vibrant setting where curiosity is encouraged, talents are nurtured, and every child is supported to flourish.
