Wellbeing

At King Edward VI Preparatory School, we believe that children flourish best when they feel happy, supported, and secure. For our pupils to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential, their wellbeing must come first.

Each week, we have an hour of Wellbeing learning, which covers the PSHEE curriculum, as well as providing the pupils with a host of wellbeing activities, from visiting our farm to breathing exercises, mindfulness to journalling. Additionally, we have our "Colour Monster Feelings Check-in", which provides all children to identify and express their feelings each and every morning. Our assembly programme also supports in the children's wellbeing, with topics ranging from, healthy eating and the importance of sleep, to celebrating our diverse community with visiting speakers.

Our Wellbeing Centre Manager leads the Wellbeing Centre — a warm, welcoming, and therapeutic space at the heart of our school. It is a safe haven where children can talk, reflect, be listened to, and take time to reset. She is supported by three dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), who work across the school from Early Years to Upper Prep.

In an ever-changing world, emotional health and wellbeing have become more important than ever. The Wellbeing Centre provides a calm and nurturing environment for children experiencing stress, anxiety, or social and emotional difficulties. Here, pupils can receive personalised support, share their concerns, and access further help if needed.

To complement the work of the Wellbeing Centre, we also offer a wide range of additional wellbeing support, including:

  • Pastoral and therapeutic support
  • ELSA sessions
  • Group work
  • Romsey Young Carers support
  • Youth in Romsey counsellors
  • Weekly 1:1 and small group Outdoor Learning sessions, including time spent caring for our farm animals
  • Daily breaktime wellbeing sessions
  • A “Worries Post Box”, encouraging children to share their feelings in a safe and accessible way

At King Edward VI Preparatory School, we are proud to nurture not only our pupils’ academic growth but also their emotional resilience, kindness, and confidence — ensuring every child feels valued and ready to thrive.
