Shaping Boundless Futures since 1926

As we welcome the children back for the start of the autumn term, we proudly celebrate 100 years of our school's history. This significant milestone gives us the opportunity to reflect on a century of inspiring young minds, nurturing talents and shaping boundless futures.

Our original proprietorial school was founded at Stroud House, Grayswood, Surrey, in 1926. It was a small day school with around 25 boys. In 1946, the school moved to Zeals House, near Mere in Wiltshire, before settling at its present location between Romsey and Winchester in 1953.

The Sanger-Davies family took ownership of the school in 1960, and in 1975 the decision was made to admit girls for the first time. Reflecting on the school's journey, Mr Sanger-Davies wrote in 1977:

"...we thank God for having brought us safely through our first fifty years, and we stand on the threshold of a future high with hope, and full of exciting achievements."

After more than fifty years of stewardship by the Sanger-Davies family, the school became part of the King Edward VI family of schools in 2012. This marked the start of an exciting new era while preserving the values and spirit that had long defined Stroud. This evolution continued with our transition to King Edward VI Preparatory School in September 2024 and the formation of The KES Group in 2026.

Mrs Rebecca Smith joined the school as Head in 2020. At our recent Centenary Launch Event she said:

"We are incredibly proud of our past. We are deeply grateful for our present community. And we are hugely excited for the future we are building together."

The legacy of all those who came before us is evident today in our strong family ethos and our commitment to providing outstanding opportunities, exceptional pastoral care and academic excellence for every child. As we begin our second century, we will continue to carry the spirit of Stroud with pride.
